Broadway Avenue is getting over $7 million in street improvements. This will result in wider sidewalks, new bicycle lanes, bulb-outs for safer pedestrian crossing, a signal light at Alhambra, and one less traffic lane in each direction. Broadway on-street parking will remain available. Traffic is expected to flow smoother due to the signal light. Construction began with tree work in January 2017 and completion is anticipated late Spring 2018.
The project started at the Fremont end of Broadway, moving towards Del Monte. Broadway is now a one-way street (temporarily) through the end of the project. Traffic will move from Fremont West toward Del Monte during the current phase of construction. This allows for parking on one lane Please be patient during the project and drive carefully. Construction is expected to be complete late Spring 2018.
COMPLETED Week of November 20.
MPE prepared subgrade for curb and gutter, and made the project site storm ready for rain forecasted over the holiday weekend. Aparicio Concrete poured curb and gutter at the Alhambra Street intersection at the west side of the Calaveras Street intersection. The remainder of the week, Aparicio completed curb & gutter forms east the City Center access road. Darrel Varni Electric (DVE) excavated and poured streetlight foundations east of Calaveras Street. For public traffic, Calaveras Street access remained open, and Alhambra St was re-opened to public traffic before Thanksgiving.
Next Week’s Schedule (week of November 27):
Aparicio Concrete will pour curb and gutter at the east intersection at Calaveras Street, and then begin sidewalk concrete pouring at the west end of the project near Hillsdale Street. DVE will be onsite to begin work on the utility cabinets and poles for the Alhambra traffic signals. The Alhambra Street access will remain open to public traffic.
