Around 2pm on June 29, 2018, a citizen came to the Seaside Police Department to turn in a possible hand grenade found in her home. The citizen had a departed relative that was retired from the Military. The citizen left the grenade in her vehicle and Seaside officers secured the City of Seaside parking lot and notified the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad. The Bomb Squad responded and determined the grenade was authentic; however it was no longer operable. The grenade was taken by the Bomb Squad for destruction.
Anyone that comes across potential explosives is asked to not handle the devices and call their local police departments.
