West Broadway Urban Village Infrastructure Update

West Broadway Construction

WBUVBroadway Avenue is getting over $7 million in street improvements. This will result in wider sidewalks, new bicycle lanes, bulb-outs for safer pedestrian crossing, a signal light at Alhambra, and one less traffic lane in each direction. Broadway on-street parking will remain available. Traffic is expected to flow smoother due to the signal light. Construction began with tree work in January 2017 and completion is anticipated late Spring 2018.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE

The project started at the Fremont end of Broadway, moving towards Del Monte. Broadway is now a one-way street (temporarily) through the end of the project. Traffic will move from Fremont West toward Del Monte during the current phase of construction. This allows for parking on one lane Please be patient during the project and drive carefully. Construction is expected to be complete late Spring 2018.

COMPLETED Week of October 16.

MPE removed sidewalk, curb & gutter, and existing streetlights, and installed temporary street lights east of Calaveras St to the eastern end of the project, near Fremont Blvd.  During nighttime work, MPE connected storm drains from the south side of West Broadway to the existing storm drain pipe on the north side of Broadway. This ensures storm water will drain as we enter the rainy season. In addition, MPE completed subgrade work from Alhambra to Calaveras Streets.  The concrete subcontractor, Aparicio Concrete needed additional time to complete the forms for the Hillsdale intersection spandrels, v-gutter, and handicapped ramps. The landscaping subcontractor, K&D Landscaping, accomplished the following: trenched for conduit across the City Center roadway; excavated and formed tree wells between Alhambra and Calaveras Streets; and excavated for and placed irrigation conduits between Alhambra and the eastern end of the jobsite near Fremont Ave. The electrical subcontractor, Darrel Varni Electric (DVE), removed existing streetlights from Calaveras to the eastern end of the jobsite, and energized the temporary lighting there.  In addition, DVE installed new streetlight conduit east of Calaveras St

Next Week’s Schedule (week of October 23):

The concrete subcontractor, Aparicio Concrete, will pour concrete curb and gutter, starting west of Hillsdale St and proceeding eastward.  MPE will construct the subgrade for sidewalk, curb and gutter east of Calaveras St.  Darrel Varni Electric and K&D Landscaping will continue installing conduit east of Calaveras St.
