This position directs and manages the recreation programs and services for the City of Seaside and the Pattullo Swim Center, facilitates the Art and History program and the Parks and Recreation Commission, and plans all large City special events.
A long-time public servant with over 20 years of experience working in local government leading recreation programs for youth, adults and seniors, Dan brings deep operational experience and a record of collaborative and innovative leadership.

A native of Livermore, California, Dan studied Recreation Administration and Business Administration at Humboldt University and worked for many years for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. He joined the City of Seaside in 2015 as the Recreation Programs Supervisor then was promoted to Recreation Superintendent in 2017.
Since arriving in Seaside, Meewis has lead the Cutino Park revitalization, a $5 million park infrastructure project which will be completed this summer 2019; he established the first new park in the City in over 15 years, Roberts Lake Eco Recreation Station which received national awards; and he coordinated the City’s first 4th of July Celebration last year at Bayonet Blackhorse Golf Course attended by more than 20,000 people.
Dan is a strategic thinker and problem solver who can provide innovative, yet practical solutions to long term challenges. During his tenure, he has built a strong community network and has shown his loyalty and passion for the Citizens of Seaside.
Dan will be taking over for Recreation Director Nancy Towne who retired after 32 years of service to the City of Seaside. He will assume the duties on July 20, 2019.
