In September of 2017, Seaside passed regulations allowing the sale, distribution and cultivation of medical and adult use cannabis at a limited number of locations in the City. The Ordinance allowed for a 30 day application period and the deadline for Cannabis Use Permit applications was Tuesday, November 21st. The City of Seaside received 17 applications for permits which will ultimately only be granted at three locations.
Staff has been working diligently to review over 2,000 pages over the holiday weekend and scored each applicant according to a scoring matrix in the ordinance. Scoring criteria included evaluating business plans, safety plans as well as neighborhood compatibility and community benefits.
The top applications will be recommended to the Planning Commission during the December 4th, 2017 public hearing starting at 5:00 PM in the City Council Chambers at 440 Harcourt Avenue, Seaside, CA 93955. Applications approved by the Planning Commission will be recommended to the City Council for approval during a Public Hearing on December 28th. The public is welcome to attend or submit their comments in writing prior to the meeting.
