Activities & Events
Make new friends, take a class or just travel to a new and unique place. Everyone 60 years and better is welcome to join in a variety of activities and programs. These programs will help improve your emotional well-being and provide opportunities to socialize with others. A wide range of special senior events take place thoughout the year. Scenic Walks: $2/walkEvery month we offer an opportunity and transportation to take a walk around Monterey County. Whether you are looking to better your health, or just explore nature’s beauty, sign up for our scenic walks.

The senior leisure activities offer an opportunity for seniors to make new friends, learn a new skill, or just travel to a new and unique place. Everyone 60 years and better is welcome to join in a variety of activities and programs.
BridgeBridge takes place Mondays from 9:15 AM to 3 PM in the Blackhorse Room at the Oldemeyer Center. Join other Bridge players for a rousing game and stay for lunch, provided by Meals on Wheels. To make lunch reservations, please call 831-899-6809. BingoSenior Bingo is held on Tuesdays from 12 PM to 3 PM and Sundays from 5 PM - 10 PM in Laguna Grande Hall at the Oldemeyer Center. Bingo Cards are $0.50 each. You must be 18 years old to play. Lunch is available for $3 with 24-hours in advance reservations. Call 831-899-6809. CribbageCome and join us for challenging games of Cribbage at the Oldemeyer Center every Wednesday, from 5 PM - 10 PM. Knitting & CrochetingIf you have always wanted to learn how to knit or crochet, join Merrilyn Mancini every Monday morning from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. She will walk you through the basics! Before you know it, you’ll be knitting a scarf or hat for yourself or to give as a gift. If you are already a pro, join us for a fun, relaxing time of knitting and sharing the morning with friends over coffee and pastries as you create something new. Please bring your own supplies. Social Dance ClassJoin us Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 PM to 2 PM in the Oldemeyer Center Dance Studio for our Social Dance Class. Learn the basics of social or ballroom dancing, even come in and perfect the smooth moves you have already! This is a rhythmic and fun way to enhance the health and well-being of older adults. Let us help you learn basic to advanced steps from a variety of dance styles. Coffee and light refreshments are served.Square DancingThe Sage Stompers Square Dance Club invites all square dancers to join them every Tuesday night from 7:30 PM to 9 PM for a fun evening of square dancing. Singles, couples and all ages are welcome! Beginner classes are held the first Tuesday of each month. A $2 donation is appreciated. Please call 831-899-0752 for more informationLine DancingFriday mornings from 9:15 AM to 11:15 AM in Laguna Grande Hall and Tuesdays from 2 PM to 3:30 PM in the Dance Studio. Coordinator Helena Lum has room for everyone just starting out to line dancing veterans. This is a popular dance trend with our seniors and a great fitness opportunity. So get moving! | Chi GongChi Gong classes take place at the Oldemeyer Center on Mondays from 9 AM to 10 AM free of charge. The breathing technique referred to as the Guo Lin Chi Gong stimulates the immune and nervous systems and helps strengthen immunity for overall well-being. This exercise can improve your general health. No previous experience is required. Exercise and Stretching ClassJoin us for a free drop in exercise and stretching class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM, in Laguna Grande Hall. The first half of the class focuses on strengthening the muscles, and ends with stretching. This improves health, lowers risks for chronic diseases, and makes activities of daily living easier. No experience needed. We provide the equipment, so all you need to bring is water. Flexibility and Relaxation ClassMondays from 10 AM - 11 AM, we will focus on stretching out the muscles to improve flexibility and help you move better, in the Oldemeyer Dance Studio. We will also explore ways to relax and de-stress. Mats are provided or you can bring your own.

The senior nutrition program offers an opportunity for seniors to enjoy food and offers social, educational, and other support services for seniors.
Themed Lunch DancesThe Senior Program hosts wonderful theme lunches and great dances! Dances take place in Laguna Grande Hall at the Oldemeyer Center. Lunch and Dancing: $4 / Just Dancing: $2. 2020 Dates
Lunch is served at 11:30 AM. Dancing to a live band follows from 12:15 PM to 3 PM. **Mother’s Day Event is FREE for mothers, 10 AM - 1 PM. Lunch is served at 10:30 AM. Not a dance. Market DayEvery Tuesday from 9:30-11 AM, come buy fresh, affordable produce at the Oldemeyer Center. | Coffee ChatWe invite you to have complimentary coffee and pastries Monday through Friday 9 AM to 11 AM. Join in and meet new friends, catch up with old friends and watch a little TV with us. Candlelight LunchesJoin us for a Meals on Wheels lunch the first Wednesday of each month. Enjoy lunch and live music for your listening or dancing pleasure. Music begins at 11 AM and lunch is served in Laguna Grande Hall at the Oldemeyer Center at 11:20 AM. Please call 831-899-6809 to make a reservation 24 hours in advance. Meals on WheelsThis program is co-sponsored by the City of Seaside and Meals on Wheels. A delicious hot meal is served every day for seniors 60 years and above for a suggested donation of $3. The meal is generally served Monday through Friday from 11:15 AM to 11:45 AM in the Laguna Grande Hall. Please call the Senior Kitchen at 831-899-6809 to make a reservation by 1 PM the day prior. |
Blood Pressure CheckFree Blood Pressure check are offered on the first Friday of every month from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM by the Seaside Fire Department in Laguna Grande Hall.Diabetes Support GroupThe Community Hospital Diabetes Education Program meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from 10 AM to 11:30 AM in the Seahorse Room.Medicare AssistanceAlliance on Aging Medicare Assistance will be available the first and second Tuesday of the month at 11 AM, 12 PM, and 1 PM. Tax PreparationAlliance on Aging Tax Preparation will be available during tax season, every Wednesday and Thursday from 9 AM - 1 PM, during February 6-April 11, 2019. Senior Citizen Utility Collection Rate DiscountSeniors, age 65 and over with no dependents living at home, can qualify for reduced garbage and collection rates. Please pick up your form from the Oldemeyer Center at 986 Hilby Avenue, Seaside. For assistance please call 831-899-6880, form must be delivered to City Hall along with your utility bill and a document to verify age. Tech TableNeed help with your technology devices? Bring them to our tech table, Fridays from 12-2 PM, to get answers and help. Monterey Peninsula CollegeMonterey Peninsula College offers a wide range of classes through the MPC Older Adult Program. Registration is through Monterey Peninsula College.
| AARP Driver Safety ClassOur next AARP Driver Safety Class will meet May 13 & 15 from 12:30-5 PM (New Class) and October 7 from 12:30-4 PM (Refresher Class) at the Oldemeyer Center. The cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Please call 831-899-6880 to register. Payment is collected on the first day of the class by the instructor. Taxi Voucher ProgramIf you are 65 years or older and reside in Seaside, you are eligible for the new Taxi Voucher Program! These vouchers allow qualified persons to travel via taxi within their local community. These vouchers are available at the Oldemeyer Center front desk upon presenting a valid picture ID. Seaside Residents may obtain up to 6 vouchers per calendar month. One voucher is good for a single one-way trip up to the value of $17. Voucher holders are responsible for paying any balance above the $17 metered amount. Serviceable Locations - These taxi vouchers are valid anywhere within the city limits of Del Rey Oaks, Monterey, Sand City and Seaside, as long as the trip originates in one of these cities. Taxi Providers - When ready to ride, call one of the Taxi providers listed below and give yourself plenty of time, as a taxi may not be immediately available when you call.
